This months Athlete Spotlight is on Christine Selletti. Christine is 9 months pregnant (do we really need to say any more about why she deserves this?) Christine has been coming routinely throughout the duration of her pregnancy, and has not let it stop her. Christine is a true inspiration to us all here at CrossFit Cobalt, many people have excuses as to why they can no longer come but Christine who has a full time job and is pregnant doesn't let any excuse stop her. In fact we often have to tell her to scale back because her determination and drive is in full force.
We could not be more proud to have shared this journey with you through your pregnancy. Through you we have learned a lot, and you have shown us how strong the human body can be. We wish you a safe, healthy and happy pregnancy and look forward to seeing you back here after you have your baby girl!! Keep on killing it Christine!!
Q: Name, and tell us a little about yourself, what do you like to do outside the gym?
A: Hi! I’m Christine Selletti (AKA Christine +1). I’m in my 9th month of pregnancy and am due to have a baby girl on August 21st. Outside of the gym I like to take my dog out for walks, relax, and I love to sleep.
Q: How long have you been crossfitting?
A: I have been crossfitting roughly 8 or 9 months, since around Thanksgiving 2013. I wish I started sooner because I really enjoy it.
Q: What is your favorite/ most memorable WOD?
A: One of my favorite WODs was a special holiday WOD that I think we did on Christmas Eve—it went with the “12 Days of Christmas” song. I messed it up in the beginning until I got the pattern down, but it was really fun after figuring out how to do it.
Another very memorable WOD, but not for positive reasons, was when we did a thruster/burpee EMOM—I think it was something like 5 burpees on the minute, with the rest of the minute being as many thrusters as possible, and you had to keep repeating that until you reached 100 thrusters…I just remember telling people after I finished that that was one of the worst (AKA hardest) WODs I had probably ever done.
Q: What is your current Fran time? Goal time?
A: I really have no idea...
Q: What are your short-term goals? Long term?
A: I guess a goal would be to find a Fran time, right? But other than that, a short-term goal is to not make excuses for my “situation” (pregnancy). I want to keep doing my best each time I go to a CrossFit class, I’m proud that I can continue to get PR’s, and that I can generally keep up with the rest of the class during the WOD.
A long-term goal would be for when I return to CrossFit—I hope I don’t lose too much of the strength/skills I’ve gained over the past few months, but whatever regresses do happen, I hope I can overcome them quickly and start back where I left off without too much difficulty.
Q: What keeps you coming back day after day?
A: Simple—CrossFit makes me feel better. No matter what kind of day I had, no matter how tired I am or how crappy I feel, I know that if I get my butt to CrossFit that day, I will feel better afterwards.
Q: What is your most memorable moment with CrossFit Cobalt?
A: I’ve always wanted to do a tire flip but never tried and never thought I could—but now because of CrossFit, I know I can do them and I really like doing them. Same goes with rope climbs—I was never able to do a rope climb, but now I can. Realizing I can do these two things were very memorable moments for me.
Q: What has CrossFit done for you?
A: I truly feel that CrossFit has helped me immensely throughout my pregnancy. I have felt great the whole time, and I really do attribute my good progress to all of the stretching, strength activities, various WODs, etc. that we do at the gym. I don’t think I would have had such a smooth and enjoyable 9-ish months if it wasn’t for CrossFit. The support, care, concern, and compliments I have received throughout my pregnancy from everyone at Cobalt are amazing. The positive feedback and kindness have truly inspired me to keep CrossFitting this whole time, and I am so grateful to have had such wonderful support from the coaches and members. Everyone has been so nice and helpful—so THANK YOU!!!
