This months athlete spotlight is on two members that are always WODing together; Heaven and Belinda. These two have been with us for almost a year and have spread happiness and brought a smile to everyones faces that they've worked out with.
Both Heaven and Belinda have made tremendous strides and improvements. When they first came in they were very unsure about the movements of CrossFit, as many of us are. Not even a year later, they are both PR'ing lifts, entering into competitions and crossfitting with a beautiful confidence.
We are glad that you guys are a part of our team. Thank you for your enthusiasm and for always having a smile on your faces.
Q: Name, and tell us a little about yourself, what do you like to do outside the gym?
Heaven A: Hi my name is Heaven Saez and as you may all already know I am daughter to Belinda Saez. Outside of the gym I like to mountain bike with family, go on adventures with my sisters at the beach. I to sing and draw and definitely love to dance.
Belinda A: Hi my name is Belinda Saez and as you may all already know I am mom to Heaven Saez. Outside of the gym I like to mountain bike through trails with the family, fish on the beach. I also love to read, and I love to dance.
Q: How long have you been crossfitting?
A: We are very excited because we will be making a year doing crossfit come March 2015.
Q: What is your favorite/ most memorable WOD?
Our favorite and most memorable wod was one that we had a buy in of 100 sit ups than it worked its way down the ladder 90, 80,70 etc. it included wall balls, squats, pushups than you cashed out with 100 sit ups oh and then there was the time we had to run 3 miles. I thought you were going to find me on Hubbard’s path passed out. A challenge is fun.
Q: What is your current Fran time? Goal time?
A: We remember doing Fran when we first started but we never got a chance to write our score down. So I look forward to doing it this time around with the crew.
Q: What are your short-term goals? Long term?
Heaven A: My goals are to keep breaking my records and to be able to outdo myself, get better at Rx and my favorite a MUSCLE UP.
Belinda A: It is funny because my short term goals are actually my long term goals. Those goals are to continue to learn, get stronger and stay healthy. I want to accomplish a pull-up without a band, rope climb and continue to build myself with my partner in crime Heaven Saez. She truly is my inspiration.
Q: What keeps you coming back day after day?
Heaven A: What keeps me coming back is great friends, great coaches and challenging wods. It’s funny my mom and I both started in our living room doing Jillian Michaels and Sean T Insanity picking up 8lb weights and here we are now deadlifting Mom- 165lbs, me 205lbs, backsquating 120+ . You definitely have to enjoy that progress. You have to realize how strong one’s body is if you treat it right.
Belinda A: What keeps me coming back are great friends and such inspirational coaches which have become our friends. The feeling of accomplishment no matter if my arms or legs fail us, no matter how tired I can be I know I have come far. There is also this little voice I hear every time we go and that is my Heaven telling me “Mommy you got this “ It’s funny because we both started in our living room doing Jillian Michaels and Sean T Insanity picking up 8lb weights and here we are now deadlifting Me- 165lbs, Heaven 205lbs, backsquating 120+ . You definitely have to enjoy that progress. You have to realize how strong one’s body is if you treat it right.
Q: What is your most memorable moment with CrossFit Cobalt?
Heaven A: My most memorable moment was doing my first competition, pull-up without a band, handstand pushup, double unders, deadlifting 205lbs and now cleaning 125 lbs. Being able to meet everyone at Crossfit and becoming family, it has become our second home.
Belinda A: My most memorable moment is learning double unders, doing a 95lb clean, joining our first competition which Beth felt we were ready and hoping to keep moving on to many more. There are so many events to be proud of the list goes on and on.
Q: What has CrossFit done for you?
Heaven A: Crossfit has gotten me looking sexier than ever. I have more confidence and feel accomplished. I know I can do anything I put my mind too. Thank you for welcoming my mom and me into your Crossfit family.
Belinda A: Crossfit has shown me we can accomplish so much within ourselves. Almost five years ago I was nearly left paralyzed on my left arm. I had to have a double anterior cervical discectomy fusion from a car accident. Here I am today stronger and more alive than I have ever been crossfitting with my daughter. I was told I many never get full range of my arm but since joining that has changed. Crossfit is not only about picking up heavyweight and roaring through it. It is the lessons taught about form, flexibility training, learning the basics every day and continuing to do so and in return the body gains power to be able to physically become stronger. We both thank you for welcoming us into your Crossfit family.
